6. Events and Fundraising

We raised over £27,000 last season beating our own target of £25,000. So how did we do it?

These are the events we have put on over the last season, all of which were successful and raised much needed funds for our Club. We hope those who attended also had fun, we certainly did!

Family Horse Race Nights
Family Bingo
Professional Comedy Night
Sunday afternoon music events in Ellenders
Afternoon Tea for the D-Day anniversary
Car boot sales
Grand Raffle
Legends Night

We are busy working on repeating these this season so look out for more news soon. We are also hoping to put on music events upstairs in the Nineteen33 Suite, and we will have a stand at the Club’s Community Day so come and see us there.

At each home game we sell Golden Goal tickets at £1 each, with someone winning £75 in cash every time. This is a great source of income for the Association and we are currently selling 4 or 5 sets at every home game. As the winning ticket is decided by the time of the first goal scored (or not as we do have a 0-0 ticket) this scheme is an incidental lottery rather than the 50/50 tickets the Club sell on match days.

Chris Cook’s team sheets, sold widely just before kick off at each home game also come under the Association’s umbrella. The income from these sheets is earmarked to help the Youth set up but the Association is looking after those funds ready for Chris and the Committee to spend as appropriate.

So what are we spending the money on? Our Chair has regular meetings with David Newton to find out what the Club would find useful for us to purchase. Here is what gave the Club money for last season:

  • Under 23’s team extra expenses for the Club - £10,000
  • Big screen hire for play offs - £5,000
  • Pre match goals and media equipment - £6,305
  • Ball crew clothing - £1,444
  • Goalkeeping gloves for every youth team - £807
  • Goal target practice nets - £125
  • Portable ice bath - £176
  • Clothing and equipment for groundsman - £176
  • Gloves for Jake Lovelace - £200
  • Fitness bikes for first team - £220

Of course it’s not just about raising funds, but also about saving the Club money. That is where Roger’s volunteer group comes in. He can put the call out via a WhatsApp group if the Club needs help, such as putting the frost covers on the pitch or cleaning the seats before the start of the season. All this saves the Club money and is as good as us raising it. Don’t forget to tick that box on your membership application form and you can really be involved in our Club. See our Volunteer page on how to join.

Anything we pay for leaves more in the budget for the Club to spend.
