So what sort of events have we been working on? We have recently had a successful race night, An Evening with Paul Bastock and Steve Appleby, northern soul afternoon, car boot sale and grand raffle.
What events are we working on?
Boston United Community Day;
Legends Night;
Beetle Drive;
Further music events in Ellenders;
And others in the pipeline.
At each home game we sell Golden Goal tickets at £1 each, with someone winning £75 in cash every time. This is a great source of income for the Association and we have plans to roll it out around the ground so everyone gets a chance to play.
Chris Cook’s teamsheets, sold widely just before kick-off at each home game, also come under the Association’s umbrella. The income from these sheets is earmarked to help the youth set-up but the Association is looking after those funds ready for Chris and the committee to spend as appropriate.
So what are we spending the money on? Our chair has regular meetings with David Newton to find out what the club would find useful for us to purchase. We’ve got a current wish list and the committee will decide what to buy next. Here are some of the things we have already purchased since October 2022:
• Handrails for the West Stand;
• Performance software for youth teams;
• Boots for youth team player;
• Media equipment package to improve communication between club and fans;
• Sponsoring a player throughout the season;
• Portable goals and safety netting to be used for warm-ups saving the grass on the pitch;
• Sponsorship of passports for the kids to collect autographs;
• Noticeboards around the ground;
• Clothing kit for ball crews.
Of course it’s not just about raising funds, but also about saving the club money. That’s where Roger’s volunteer group comes in. He can put the call out via a WhatsApp group if the club needs help, such as putting the frost covers on the pitch or cleaning the seats before the start of the season. All this saves the club money and is as good as us raising it. Don’t forget to tick that box on your membership application form and you can really be involved in our club.
Anything we pay for leaves more in the budget for the club to spend.
