Blyth Spartans 1-4 Boston United

Craig Singleton11 Mar 2023 - 18:11

Jordan Burrow, Sam McLintock, Billy Chadwick and Jake Wright scored the all-important goals as Boston United romped to victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Pilgrims were too strong for their fellow strugglers at Croft Park - with Burrow's 19th minute header and McLintock's 44th minute drive handing United a commanding half-time lead.

Chadwick doubled the lead nine minutes after the break - with Wright adding a fourth in stoppage time after Troy Chiabi had briefly reduced the arrears for the hosts.

McLintock and Lirak Hasani were restored to the starting XI ahead of kick-off and United, resplendent in pink once again, started well.

Blyth did threaten for the first time with Chiabi heading wide from a Main cross, but United got into their groove and Alex Mitchell saved well to deny McLintock from distance.

The Pilgrims took the lead when Chadwick delivered a quality ball from the right and BURROW got up at the back post to dispatch a firm header beyond Mitchell into the bottom corner.

Chadwick sent an audacious chip narrowly off target, while Gregory did well to deny Chiabi from outside the box.

United doubled their lead a minute before half-time when Chadwick's corner was only partially cleared and McLINTOCK crashed home a terrific volley from 20 yards.

Luke Shiels was denied by a Nicky Deverdics goalline clearance at the start of the second half, but United were soon three goals to the good when CHADWICK weaved infield to beat Mitchell with a fine effort in the 54th minute.

Mitchell repelled Tom Nixon, while Gregory made a super save to keep out Jordan Hickey's firm drive.

CHIABI did cut the deficit with four minutes to play with a fine, rising finish from 18 yards - but WRIGHT had the last laugh by rifling home United's fourth in the third minute of stoppage time.
