Boston United crashed out of the Emirates FA Cup on Tuesday evening following a night of drama at the Jakemans Community Stadium.

On an evening that saw three players substituted through injury, the Pilgrims squandered a two-goal lead inside nine minutes through a Dominic Roma own goal and Jake Wright, with Gregg Smith and Anthony Dwyer forcing extra-time.

Luther Munakandafa’s strike was cancelled out by a Scott Pollock penalty, but Basford prevailed 4-2 in the shootout to book a trip to Solihull Moors.

The Pilgrims took a seventh minute lead when Wright saw his chip across goal powered home by ROMA, under significant pressure from Scott Pollock. Two minutes later, Keenan Ferguson delivered from the right-hand side and WRIGHT finished with a sweeping effort from six yards.

United were indebted to goalkeeper Rhys Davies, deputising for the injured Sam Long, for a brilliant first half save to deny Matt Thornhill.

Basford cut the deficit seven minutes after the break when SMITH headed home Josh Barnes' cross from the left - and levelled after Smith's drive had rattled the crossbar, with DWYER striking home a brilliant half-volley in the 67th minute.

Extra-time was reached - and Basford sub MUNAKANDAFA handed the visitors a 93rd minute lead with a driven, angled finish from 18 yards.

The Pilgrims equalised again on the stroke of half-time in extra-time when Scott POLLOCK netted from the spot, after Stern Irvine had been penalised for handball.

Basford skipper Thornhill picked up his second yellow card as the last act of the match and with Ellis Myles stood down from United's side, penalties commenced in front of the North Stand.

Dwyer, Barnes, Ben Starkie and keeper Kieran Preston all scored for Basford - with Wright and Scott Pollock netting for the Pilgrims. Preston produced fine saves to thwart Jordon Crawford and Brad Abbott to send the Ambers through.
