Shiels takes top honour for 2019-2020

Craig Singleton10 May 2020 - 15:00

Boston United captain Luke Shiels has been named as the Pilgrims' player of the year for 2019-2020.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant first campaign at The Jakemans Stadium — leading the Pilgrims to the second round of the Emirates FA Cup in addition to a fourth place standing in National League North when the season was halted due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Shiels took the Turnbull Building and Plumbing Supplies-sponsored award ahead of midfield duo Brad Abbott and Andi Thanoj who tied in second place.

He started five of the Pilgrims' six FA Cup ties and scored crucial goals against Sutton Coldfield Town and Carshalton Athletic as Craig Elliott's side came within a whisker of entertaining Premier League giants Newcastle United in round three.

Shiels, who scored four goals in 39 appearances during the course of the season, will be presented with his trophy when conditions allow.
