The Shrimpers have opened their own campaign with successive draws – at home to York City (1-1) and away at Hartlepool United (0-0).
Dan Mooney could make his third competitive United appearance – coming up against the side he started last season with, scoring on the opening day in a 4-0 win over Oldham Athletic.
United will once again be without the services of goalkeeper Jake Lovelace and defender Kieran Coates through injury.
On-loan Norwich City stopper Ellis Craven is eligible to feature, should manager Ian Culverhouse decide to make any changes to his 18-man squad from Saturday.
