Daubney thankful for reserves backing

Daubney thankful for reserves backing

Craig Singleton9 May 2013 - 07:30

Boston United Reserves assistant manager Aidie Daubney has paid tribute to the support afforded to the club’s second string this season.

The Pilgrims finished the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League campaign in sixth place and their starting line-up against CGB Humbertherm on the final day contained eight teenagers.

United, managed by Nigel Vince, also lifted the Challenge Cup after a 2-0 win over Nettleham last weekend.

Furthermore, several reserve team players have gone on to enjoy involvement in the first set-up, most notably Sam Vince, Charley Sanders and Jordan Nuttell.

Daubney maintains that none of the reserves’ success would have been possible without the support of the United board and staff members.

Daubney told bufc.co.uk: "We have received brilliant support from the chairman through to the staff and we have enjoyed a really good season as a consequence.

"Finishing sixth in the league and winning the Challenge Cup represents an excellent first season for this young group of players.

"A number of players have also been involved in and around the first team, so there is plenty to be proud of from the season."

Vince and Daubney assumed control of the reserves in March following Martyn Bunce’s elevation to the assistant manager role alongside Dennis Greene.

Daubney also thanked the man who had kicked off all the good work on the reserve team front this season.

He added: "We have simply built on the foundations laid down by Bunny.

"He mapped out how he wanted the reserve set-up to work last summer and by enjoying a good finish in the league, winning the Challenge Cup and seeing several young players progress to the first team, you have got to say he got it right.”
