United in the Community, working in partnership with Boston United, will host a first-ever over-50s five-a-side walking football tournament in April.

Local teams from around the county, as well as those from surrounding areas, are invited to take part on Sunday April 24.

Walking football for over-50s has lots of benefits — it’s important to stay fit, active and healthy whatever your age but as you get older, regular exercise and playing a sport like walking football can help.

It can improve strength, increase core stability, help you lose or maintain your weight and muscles, and improve balance. It is also a great way for people to meet others and great way to socialise.

"Since launching our walking football sessions last summer as part of our Sport England Active Pilgrims project, it has fast become one of our most popular sessions, with up to 28 people turning up to take part," said tournament co-ordinator Holly Maidens.

"We hope the tournament will be a good opportunity to showcase walking football and provide players with the opportunity to socialise, as well as play at the Boston United stadium."

Team entry is £25 per team, with hot and cold refreshments available throughout the day.

If you would like any further information or are interested in entering a team, please contact Holly via holly.maidens@bufc.co.uk or call (01205) 364406 or 07951 401725.
