The 27-year-old has put pen-to-paper ahead of the 2019-2020 campaign following two successful trial outings for the Pilgrims.
Tuton counts Chester FC, Spennymoor Town and Chorley (loan) as his most recent destinations.
Reflecting on Tuton’s arrival, United manager Craig Elliott told bufc.co.uk: “Shaun is a player I have tried to sign several times.
“I feel he’s not had a consistent opportunity during the last few seasons in what I consider his best position.
“He proved in a short time on trial how much hunger and talent he still possesses.
“He’s still at a great age to get back to the Shaun Tuton I remember watching playing for Halifax, Matlock and Buxton not so long ago.”
